ANNOUNCEMENT 1

From the organizers

The organizers invite to second "Forest and Water" conference. The last international "Forest and Water" Conference took place in May 1998. In final conclusions the need for meeting in the future was expressed. The Conference aroused interest in scientific groups, forest and water management specialists due to joint approach to basic environments like water and plant (especially forest) cover. Investigation on rules governing forest growth, and on runoff formation resulting from forest impact are important issues. Forest is not only a multitude of trees, but also a great biodiversity of habitats and landscape.

In watershed systems, forest with subsoil and water play decisive role in environment formation. Research on description of such systems, considering all conditions is still continued.

We are waiting for papers dealing with basic research, findings on system and sub-system functioning rules, and description of individual processes.

The organizers express their hope that during the Conference new ideas on relations between forest and water, considering human impact, will be presented and that the Conference will become a discussion forum on new studies and results joining different aspects treated usually separately, related to systems and processes present in the complex space of lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere, interconnected by natural laws.

Topical groups:

The above-presented scope of consideration is immense and cannot be covered by a relatively narrow subject area of the Conference. It was presented to emphasize scope of topics only, out of which research reports are expected. To closer specify selected scope we propose the following topical groups:

  1. Processes governing growth of forest and its environment.
  2. Forest water management versus sustainable development.
  3. Water balance in forest environment.
  4. Hydrology of forest ecosystem.
  5. Water retention in forest.
  6. Forest growth and water demand.
  7. Influence of antropogenic factors and disasters on water resources in forest and habitat conditions.
  8. Water quality in forest.
